Reese Has Cancer

It was confirmed yesterday at U of Florida Vet Hospital.  We await news today of the exact type. . either lymphoma or multiple myeloma.  His other issue, esp. the hip displaysia, complicate matters.

The vet aspirated a cystic lymph node and took an aspirate sample of the spleen.  We met with the oncologist for some time to discuss options and treatments.  It is pretty complicated and expensive but we are proceeding.  Unfortunately, however, there are no long term cures.  Reese will feel good (as if he does not have cancer) for some period of time, but eventually the "clinical signs" will return.  They treats dogs differently than humans in that we can voice concerns re:  side effects and they cannot.  They blasted me with toxins at a high level whereas they will not do that with dogs.

When I was diagnosed we decided to live large for a while and we will do the same for Reese. . he will be the most pampered pet on the planet for the next few months.  We love him so much.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news and hope your week is going better. Peggy

  1. I am so sorry to hear that. I hope he does well for a long time and that he's not in pain.
