Melphalan Found for Reese!

Dr. Specht at U of F found the drug we need for Reese!  Amazing research and connections!  We ordered it today (2 administrations) for only $300. . not bad! We will give that to him along with prednisone in pill form. . no injections needed.  The admin is kind of complicated with certain days on and then times off but we will get a Reese Calendar and make sure we keep up with this regime.  He seems ok today but a bit bored.  Tomorrow we'll try to get him back to the park and see if he can pace himself around the lake.

The Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville.  Chemo is so in demand they are going to 8 pm start times!
I had Chemo today and feel tired but really ok.  The only new side effect is a sore mouth (not mouth sores, per se. . just my entire mouth is in neuropathy) so I am unable to eat much (yet another new diet!)  I had this side effect last chemo as well and the pain goes away after about 48 hours.  Unfortunately, I will have to remain on chemo at least through one more administration (I was hoping to take a break for a while, but medically speaking it is not advisable).  We'll do a CT scan before we leave for Asheville and see what's what.

 It went up into the low 90s here.  I imagine the natives are thinking 100 degree days ahead for the summer, if it is 90 in April!  I understand the entire country has had a record-breaking spring so far. We will have a MAJOR storm tonight though. Allie hates the wind and will hide until it is over.

Using a generous gift certificate from Jo Anne, I bought a new top and jewelry and underwear. Why do I buy jewelry when I don't work anymore is beyond me. . I guess I am one of those women who get attached to a certain thing, like shoes. . eh?  My fetish is jewelry.  Reminds me of one day not long ago at WalMart when I asked the clerk where something was and she said it was right next to the JURY department.  So WalMart is now a courtroom too!  Bet you didn't know that!~

I will close with this photo. . .I cannot wait to serve this!  So easy.  I will add some Earth (chocolate) to the bottom of the bananas as well!

    HOOOOORRAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYy for melphalen!!!!!! what a huge relief!!! and that's wonderful that it is all in tablet form rather than injections/iv. i think it was allie who had trouble swallowing pills but just wanted to suggest that if he doesn't like pills to start practicing now. find out what he likes so that when you are giving him the important meds he will definitely swallow them. but hopefully he's a chowhound and will eat whatever you give him :) as far as the calendar goes we found that writing out the meds for each day and adding a little box beside it (to check off when you give the meds) helps a lot. and one of those pill boxes that holds the daily pills is helpful, too. but i bet you know all of this already from taking your own pills! i'm just so very happy and relieved that the med is available . . . hooray! it sounds like reese is feeling well so that's wonderful and i hope you will make it to the park tomorrow. just realized that since it is hot (wow!!) if you haven't given him a haircut it might be a good idea (didn't you give him one last year or am i confused?)timber panted more than usual during chemo and i do not know if the meds made her feel hot (she didn't have a fever) or if it was the pred (i think it can cause panting but i could be wrong) or what, but we kept her fur clipped short. she was a german shepherd/chow mix so she was very fluffy! thanks for sharing all of the SUPER CUTE photos of Reese--it makes me so happy to see his adorable face!! and thanks for all of the updates, i have been thinking of you all. and thinking about how lucky reese is to have you! :) michelle

      Thanks Michelle! We are excited too! Off to the park in a few minutes. He had his grooming about 30 days ago so he is set. Will post more photos soon! Have a great weekend!
