We visited with Betty in Orlando on Saturday and she is doing better and will return to work this week (she has had back problems). Patrick continues to recover and is not coughing as much. Reese took his last chemo drug for this cycle yesterday and we have not noticed any adverse reactions.
We met yesterday with Roger who runs the Daytona chapter of UOAA (United Ostomy Associations of America) as well as a Hollister (appliance manufacture) rep about setting up our group in Asheville and they were very supportive. They said that October 6th is World Ostomy Day and there is a huge need to heighten awareness and convey information to RNs (and Home Health Care aides) about the life of an ostomate. I had no idea. I guess I assumed nurses knew but when you think about it, after all, there is specialization, Wound Care and Ostomy (WOC) nurses, who are called upon to help ostomates, so the regular nurses just don't know much about them. Anyway, I look forward to bringing some info and marketing to bear in Asheville as well as helping people with "unmentionable" issues.
ChainFree Asheville sent out a request for position statements on Friday to all 22 candidates seeking a commission seat and have heard back from 3 so far. The chairman (YAY) continues to beat the drum for us. . we are so lucky!!!! This will be an uphill battle but am feeling pretty good about it right now. UnChain Buncombe, the campaign name, will kick off this summer with billboards, radio and other media.
Well, we're off to get Reese's blood tested and then to Mayo for the meeting with the surgeon who may or may not re-site my stoma.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.
Love,
Peggy
