We're back!
Brother, do we know how to pick a date for traveling or what? HA! From BALMY 80's to BRR 50's and 60's for Mother Nature, adjusting the California thermometer down and forcing the clouds to spill over.
Orinda, where Bill (Patrick’s brother) and Pat (wife) live, had rain all day, each day we were there. But it gave us a super time to reconnect and enjoy each other’s company! Patrick and I also enjoyed a short casino visit. Fun! It was also terrific seeing Jake and Jesse, their Golden Doodles. Jake turned two years old when we were there. Pat and I had a great lunch at California (where else?) Pizza Kitchen and shopped in Walnut Creek. My, how that has little town changed since I lived in SF in 1972! We stopped by a brand new (open last week) Neiman Marcus and was in awe of their "needless mark-up"pricing. The four us had a terrific meal at Lark to celebrate Pat’s upcoming birthday. Everything was delicious. However, no restaurant could put a meal on like Chez Irwin. Pat and Bill served us wonderful meals of grilled asparagus with shaved Parmesan, seasoned crock pot beef (the best we’ve had) and delicious Tri-Tips and other gourmet feasts. Here is a shot of all family members. Our sincerest thanks go to them for their gracious hospitality
West Hills, in LA, where Ryan and Sarah live, also had rain but it thankfully cleared up after our first day allowing us to explore a bit more. We visited the Norton Simon Museum on Saturday in Pasadena and on Monday, in Santa Monica, we did up the town, visiting the Third Street Promenade as well as the famous Santa Monica Pier and the Getty Villa (Greek and Roman art and architecture).
Unfortunately, we were rear-ended on Saturday night about 2 minutes from their house! And although everything is OK (except for Ryan’s inconvenience of taking the car into the shop) Sarah had to visit the ER for extra sonograms to ensure that the baby is ok…which she was. The driver responsible has insurance (just weak brakes on a fairly new car!). Thank goodness. His impact affected Ryan’s car and then we bashed into the truck in front of us, so there are three parties involved. Anyway, other than that, we had a good time and it was so good to catch up with their lives. Big hugs and thanks to Ryan and Sarah!
Chemo yesterday at 9 a.m. forced us to get up very early (bodies still on West Coast time) after dragging from the trip. I am on the chemo buddy now to be removed tomorrow at 1 p.m. Feeling fine. Also made an appointment on April1 16th to see the surgeon who may re-site my stoma. We have one more administration of chemo in April and then we could, if he agrees, do the surgery to move it. Again it is a 50/50 chance that he will agree to this, so keep those fingers crossed (and prayers up!) Thanks!
It is good to be home with Reese and Allie. Reese goes in for his big senior wellness tests on Monday as well as to see about another hot spot on his paw.
A huge shout-out to Howard and Daryl for being foster parents for them while we were gone! Thanks guys too for the BBQ at Woody’s and looking after the house.
Wishing you all a great weekend!
Love,
Peggy
