Update by Patrick
I am sorry that I have not updated earlier.
As of Friday November 5th, Peggy remains at St. Joseph’s hospital. Sunday, Halloween, and Monday were very difficult with constant throwing up…a reaction to chemo. Following those days she still continues to have nausea and some vomiting to the point that she really hasn’t eaten any food. On Wednesday we started an IV with nutrients to help her. Unfortunately, her pain peaks and requires medication. Her second drainage of fluid at her stomach was done on Wednesday and produced almost 3 liters this time. It did relieve some discomfort. Two X-rays, 1 Ultra-Sound, and another MRI did not show any tumors in her head, lung, spleen, liver or stomach.
We are putting on hold the relocation to Florida for treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville until she is able to come home to Weaverville for a few days and then able to travel. Probably on Wednesday of next week we will make a decision on to continue with the chemo since she had such horrible side effects.
Sorry to be the bearer of such bad news. On the bright side, yesterday the Pet Therapy dog from another hospital floor paid a surprise visit. “Sister” or “Sis” was a Cavelier King Charles Spaniel with 3 legs and very affectionate, snuggling next Peggy on her bed. The owner was awed when she found out who the patient was…… Margaret Irwin who founded ChainFree Asheville and she gave us additional time with Sis. It turns out that our nurse that day had seen us many times at the Saturday Farmer’s Market near City Hall last year where CFA had a booth. In the early evening, the regular Pet Therapy dog for our floor arrived. “Sonny” was a Sheltie with most beautiful coat……who liked licking Peggy’s fingers and hand.
Today, she had some accupucture on her stomach to maybe help with the pain as it is not an invasive method. Also, a gastrologist visited and has set up a procedure Monday to explore down through her throat into her stomach to see if they can determine anything. My best guess is that Peggy could remain at the hospital another 4 or 5 days..... so I will update if anything happens. Thanks so much for all your emails and comments.
