Visit with Surgeon

Here is what we learned today

Yes, indeed, I have a very rare and aggressive form of cancer.  This is not a regular breast or prostate cancer.  This is more serious and life-threatening -- but luckily I did not have as many tumors as another man whom he operated on last week with Signet Ring.  That gentleman had to have a bypass (no bag) with not nearly the hope of recovery that I have.

Surgeons can only do so much. . it is significantly the ability of the oncologist to determine the treatment plan from here on out.  If the chemo works well, I might be able to have a colonic reversal in 6-12 month assuming I can handle"peritoneal inter-operative chemo" which is administered during surgery in only a few locations  around the country -- one is at Wake. There may also be one in Florida.

PET scans only reveal tumors the size of dimes or larger.  If you have lots of  little tumors the scan will not pick them up. Hmmmm...

Place is important in terms of a treatment center.  In our world of virtually knowing anything via shared databases etc, I was somewhat casual about where to get treatment but he said that the center I go to should have as much experience with  Signet Ring Cell as possible, but again this is the oncologist's call.

The wound vac comes off (95% chance) next Monday at 4 p.m. in his office.  Then I will be chain free. Yea.

The nurse is due here momentarily. . . gotta run.
