Sorry for the delay in recent postings. Peggy suffered sever nausea and pain last Wed. night,
Aug. 22nd and we got her transferred to the Keever Hospice Center here in Asheville. They
are part of the Hospice Care she is under. They were able to get the nausea under control by noon on Thursday, but the pain matter was much more difficult. She had been given TPN for a few nights and we wondered if that was a cause. So, we stopped the TPN for 36 hrs, then resumed, but a lower rate. This worked fairly well, but the pain was fluctuating. Anyhow, by Monday morning we felt we had matters in hand and she came home. She has had some recurring pain so we have upped the dosage and that is helping. She has a pump for the pain medicine that is continuous, plus a bonus every 15 minutes if she wants. No nausea at home.
The Hospice Center and staff were outstanding in care and operation. No more constant poking and measuring vitals all day and night long.....just focus on pain and comfort. She had a very good day on Friday and got to see our former innkeepers and good friends, Rosie and John. Also, one of our greatest (and from the beginning) supporters of Chainfree Asheville and caring friends, Sharon Wood, came by for a surprise visit which Peggy really enjoyed.
And, two four-legged friends (Reese and Allie) paid a visit and were transported to the Center by Gil and Joe Calderwood, our Go-To friends for anything. Dogs, cats, whatever, are allowed at the Center.
After several attempts at timing and scheduling, we will now have CNA's or even RN's here at the house Mon - Fri for at least 4 hrs to help with care and free Patrick for errands, etc.
Thanks to all that have emailed and called with concerns.
Patrick
Peggy & Pat,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the posting...we appreciate it. Glad that the pain is being well managed. You are very much in our thoughts.
Love,
Barb & Bill
Hi Peggy and Patrick, Thanks so much for the update . . . I am so glad to hear that you are home. And that's a good plan to have some nurses coming to help--I'm sure it will make everything easier. The hospice center sounds like a truly special place with a very caring staff. I had not heard that animals were welcome to visit and that's wonderful the Reese and Allie were able to come with Gil and Joe. (Much easier than smuggling them in, right?!?). I hope Peggy's pain is still under control and that she is able to rest. We've been thinking about you both and please let us know if there is anything we can do to help. Sending lots of good thoughts and hugs to everyone! :) Michelle
