Update on Allie

Last night she looked pretty bad with the big staples (to come out in 10 days) and it seems like the tumor is even bigger since they shaved her.  It is even bigger today!  We have another appt. with the vet at 2:40.  We will see why she is not taking her pills (tried 5 times using pill pockets, hot dogs and lunch meat to no avail)  She is eating, just not the pill.  She is also drinking lots of water.  Poor baby.

Here is the update:

It is not an infection, for sure -- no fluid or puss
  • She is saying might not be lymphoma now after palpating the tumor.
  • Hypothesis is a neck peripheral sheath nerve carcinoma which I keep calling swannanoa but is actually schwannoma -- people get it too.  Sounds like another designer cancer (like signet ring cell -- only the weirdest cancers for us, baby!!)
  • No metastasizing to her lungs (she was afraid of that)-- saw radiographs
  • No bone intrusion yet on jaw via other radiographs-
  • No swallowing interference -- trachea tube went down without an issue -- great news because that means she can swallow.
  • I think we might have caught this early  -- I swear there was no swelling this past weekend and all of a sudden it just popped up and we saw it Wed night.
  • Surgery may be back in the picture-- some discussion about getting margins (not 100% clear what that means) but according to the internet it means that most surgeons don't get all the margins out so there is a 72 percent recurrence rate after surgery.
  • We will meet with the JAX oncologist as soon as the definitive type of cancer is know.  Should know 100% on Monday or Tuesday.
