History of Henry Flagler

Yesterday we went to a celebration of  Flager County's Library in Palm Cast (10 yrs old).

Actress Nancy Avera performed her portrayal of Henry Flagler's third wife Mary Lily --one of the richest women in Florida history, and the story of a golden age and his life, a contemporary of all those titans. Vanderbilt, Rockefeller (with whom he partnered) and Carnegie.  She did a great job.  It was packed.

All books are 25 cents this week so we are going back to buy tons o'paperbacks after the farmer's market.

I have been trying to find out more about my cancer and it is so rare, there isn't much out there.  Since the cancer was not found in the colon, actually, but on the outside of the colon, I am not sure why they are  calling it Colon cancer.  Seems to me it should be omentum cancer.  Ah well, so long as the chemo is working, perhaps I should not dig deeper!?

I slept most of yesterday after that -- felt like I had been bitten by a tse-tse fly, but have more energy today.  We are finding that the second week after chemo treatment I start losing energy..  Feel great today!!!!  Cannot wait to get our honey  bell oranges.

So how are you all doing???  I am not getting the updates from you guys as frequently.  Now that the holidays are over, I would love to hear from you.  Please!

  1. Snow again here in weaverville. Actually, it really is just about the right amount, pretty to see roads are mostly clear just wet. We are expecting more on Monday. Kris and I are working on repairs and improvements here at the Inn. See you at the end of the month.

  2. Hi Peggy and Patrick,
We only got a few inches of snow last night, but it was VERY cold today. High was 24 and the wind made it feel even colder. This feels like a typical Boston winter day!! I did bundle up and take our 2 big dogs for a walk in spite of the cold because they just love to be outdoors. This afternoon, Barry and I drove down to Biltmore Village and had panninis at Gianni Pannini. They were good but not great. Pre-made and then heated. Kind of disappointing for the Asheville culinary scene. Several stores were closed because of the weather but we poked around in New Morning Gallery and The Naturalist store and Williams Sonoma just for fun. I'm currently fostering 7 sick cats from Asheville Humane so that takes up a bit of my free time. They are all recovering though and will probably be up for adoption by the end of next week. I really am jealous of your new tricycle. It looks like SO MUCH FUN! I wish Asheville had a Rail Trail Bike Path. We usually bike at Fletcher Park because it's flat, and I'm counting the days until it's warm enough to ride a bike here in Asheville. We are supposed to get 5-8 inches Sunday night into Monday! YIKES! I just bought a copy of the digitally remastered version of the movie Doctor Zhivago. It's one of my all time favorite movies. It's over 3 hours in length so if we get snowed in I think I'll make a cup of hot chocolate and watch it! Hope we keep power!! Hope you keep getting good medical news and that you feel a little stronger each day. We think of you often and are so glad you're in warm, sunny Florida finding fun things to do!!
    Hugs,
    Sharon

  3. Hi:
I was glad to hear that you enjoyed the protrayal about the Flaglers because I think something similar is part of the Road Runners program I will be attending.
I will be interested in seeing your tricycle when I visit. I have given some thought to having one. We have great bike trails here in Madison.
Keep the medical reports positive! I am so glad things are looking up.

  4. Hi Peggy-Very strange . . . your blog page just changed a little bit while I was reading it. Different format or something? Maybe you changed it or the blog people updated it. Anyway, it still looks great! That’s really fun to hear that you went to the library’s celebration party. And I hope you got lots of good paperbacks! What a deal! And I’m so glad your energy is returning after chemo. It must be really hard to deal with the ups-and-downs but hang in there . . . it sounds like everything is going well. That’s great news! :) Michelle
