Well when it rains it pours. Things were going well and then now not so well --but will take another turn before the weekend is out (right?) so we can take our cruise. Got hit with the depression bat last night and it was with me all night until this afternoon. What is that about? I think it happens when I come off the chemo pump . you know that is when the real battle between the cancer cells and the normal cells starts. It drains you so very much!
One thing I have learned which helps depression, besides taking meds, is you must move. I mean really move your body-- run around the house if you have to, but get going. Sitting on the couch makes it worse. The other secret (?) is talking to people. Got to get yourself out of your issues and into someone else's life.
Thank goodness, the painful skin irritation has abated due to some healing powder we got.
My cousin John and his wife, Joanne are coming down in early April and that is great. Between our own travels and the guests we're having, there will be absolutely no time to be depressed.
Did I tell you about the book on cancer, called Emporer of All Maladies? Great book if anyone wants to know the history of cancer therapy. The author treats the disease as a biography of cancer. I have also picked up some trashy romances (they call them women's fiction now) for the cruise. . . and a book based on the movie Secretariat. I was at Belmont Park the day he won the triple crown. . which has not been won since then, so I have a special affinity for this beautiful animal. (plus he was born on my birthday, March 30, 1970)!!!
Well, all for now. Hope wherever you are you are not depresssed! ;-)
Peggy,
ReplyDeleteA lot of research supports you discovery that exercise helps fatique and depression. So keep it up! Call your friends and talk up a storm while you are walking!
Love,
Aunt Jean
I couldn't agree with you more about the importance of getting out of your issues and into someone else's life. While going through my husband's illness, I volunteered every week for 4 hours. It was way better than any therapy I tried. Also, girlfriends listen with a caring heart. That was a critical component to making it day to day. Congratulations to you for not succumbing to the depression or any other part of this. Prayers and well wishes all around! Susie from Indy
ReplyDeletePeggy -
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed the movie Secretariat - what a magnificent animal.
Have you and Pat considered the Kindle - Bill and I both have one and you can share books between Kindle's on the same account. Some of the things i love about them are - 1) current books are somewhat cheaper 2)you can get all the classics you'd ever want for almost nothing 3)TRAVEL - even if you're not flying, it's easier to carry 200 books weighing 13 oz, than 5 paperbacks taking up space and weighing 3 precious pounds 4) you really can read them in the sunlight 5) you can easily read while you're eating - very important feature for me.
Enjoy cruising - as you know it's our favorite method of travel. In October, our ship broke it's rudder in the Mediterrainian - and we were stranded for a week on the French Riviera - also not a bad way to travel.
Cheers,

Peggy and Patrick. I just figured out how to make a comment! Sounds like you two are doing very well, wish we could come visit. Are you coming back to Asheville anytime soon? We would love to somehow get together. Miss my nephew too.
