I want to thank our many friends and family that have expressed their love, memories and compassion in the past few days via email, phone calls, and cards. I hope that many of you can be with us this coming Friday evening.
An obituary has been posted at WestFamilyFuneralServices.com and I encourage you to sign the guest book.
Love to all,
Patrick
Peggy's Blog
This blog started out with my diagnosis of signet ring cell carcinoma but has morphed into a plain old everyday account blog. It is mainly to update friends and family on what's happening to us. Thanks for stopping by!

Celebration of Peggy's Life
Arrangements are under way to hold a celebration of Peggy's life at 7:00pm, Friday October 19th at the Asheville Humane Society Adoption and Education Center's Community Room, located at 14 Forever Friends Lane, Asheville, NC. We would love to see everyone who can attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ChainFree Asheville, 76 Tremont, Asheville, NC 28806, or to your favorite local animal welfare organization.

Peggy is crossing the Rainbow Bridge
It is with a deeply saddened heart that I announce that my beloved Peggy died last night around 10:30pm. She was asleep most of the past 2 days and left us peacefully. Her final hours were spent with close friends and our caring son Ryan and his wonderful wife Sarah. Peggy was able to greet and respond to meeting their child, our first grandchild, Norah on Friday. It is not just irony that the final days have been about the passing of an angel and the joy and promise of a newborn in our household.
Sarah and baby Norah leave today for return to California and Ryan is remaining with me until this Saturday. I will be posting immediate plans later this evening for honoring Peggy.
It was Peggy's request that in lieu of any flowers, a donation to ChainFree Asheville.org, or any local animal welfare group of your choice be made.
Love to all,
Patrick

Update
Peggy has elected to discontinue the TPN nutrition. In reality, she was able to tolerate it for just few hours a day recently and therefore not very helpful. She is comfortable, but weakening considerably, as expected. This decision was made a couple of nights ago after a 2 hr visit from her hospice doctor.
I am sorry to be the writer of this disappointing news, but I believe it is truly the best path for her now. We are still at home with professional help of CNA's and RN's when needed and generous neighbors and friends for support. Ryan and Sarah arrive very late tonight with our grandbaby, Norah. I am sure this will cheer up Peggy as Norah is now 10 weeks old.
We thank all of you for your emails, postings, phone calls, flowers, visits and well wishes over the past 4 months.

Happy Friday
Fridays have not felt the same since we retired but there is still a sense of happiness associated with the day, eh? We are extra happy today since we got an eligible dog to unchain! Lately we have received a few calls but mainly for 4 lb small pups who just need to be house trained, or people who want a fence because they want to go to the grocery store! This time we have a family -- she suffers from brain cancer -- and the dog is a rescue s/n/ and meets everything we request, so we are visiting her! So happy about this. Our inventory of dogs was dwindling!
We also got our first grant from Banfield. $10,000. Nice. They want more details than Hueston, our second provider which goes into the mail today or tomorrow. All has been sent to Portland, Oregon now and we should get the check soon.
Health -wise I feel better than I have in a long time. The first few hours of the morning are the worst time for me but by 10 a.m. I am feeling much better almost every day. Still feel best when sitting or laying down -- standing is not great due to dizziness -- must move to wheel-chair when outside. . .first trip today to grocery store in ages -- last time I got sick due to too much activity too fast. Must move slowly and calmly. Stay Calm and Keep Focused as the British might say! Think about roses!
So, all is doing fine here. Father Pat just came with absolution of the sick -- our second meeting with him. Surprise call and visit. We talked about peace -- good conversation. Look foreword to our conversation with Christine next time -- she is the Care Partner's chaplain. So wonderful to talk to people who think philosophically as well as blended reality.
Activity now is preparing for Ryan and Sarah and Baby Norah's visit next week and the party next weekend.
All for now.
Love,
Peggy
